Plug in
Yesterday, my teenage daughter Kyla was ironing a shirt.
It wasn’t until she finished that she realized the iron had not been plugged in. Since it was still warm from previous use, at first, Kyla didn’t suspect anything was out of the norm. She just went on as if everything was perfectly in order though she didn’t quite understand why she was having a difficult time getting wrinkles out. Kyla repeatedly ran the iron over the same spots, wondering why in the world she couldn’t get rid of the unwanted creases everywhere.
Well, by the time Kyla discovered the iron wasn’t plugged into the outlet, she cracked up laughing at herself. When she told me about it, I joined in on the laughter.
In life, both naturally and spiritually, things are a lot harder when you aren’t hooked up to the right power source. In our Christian faith, we believe in being connected or plugged in to God, amen? He is our greatest source of power. Without His help, things don’t work out. We keep getting new “wrinkles” in our plans. We struggle to get the roadblocks to destiny out of our way. We need His power.
In Acts 1:8, before Jesus left the earth, He told the apostles, “But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth.”
That word power in this passage is the Greek word “dunamis,” signifying miraculous power, might and strength. It is the very equipping power of God activated in the life of the believer.
If you’re feeling weak, get plugged in. Tap into the miraculous power, might and strength that equips you to perform every duty God has placed you on earth to do. That way, you don’t have to worry about not having the ability to carry out your unique assignment. You don’t have to stress about whether or not you can actually make it through on a day-to-day basis.
While it’s true that on your own you are not enough, with the Lord’s help, you have more than enough. Without dunamis, you are incapable and inadequate. On the other hand, with Holy Ghost power fueling you, you have everything you need to be strong, thrive and overcome any adversity. If you have been feeling weak and discouraged lately, as if you won’t make it, God is sending you this message to tell you to plug in.
Plug in through prayer. Plug in through worship. Plug in through study of the word of God. Plug in through fellowship with other believers. Plug in by confessing the promises of God over your life. Plug in by unplugging from every negative distraction and influence, and anything that pulls you out of the center of God’s will.
As you read this, God is combating the enemy’s attempts to sabotage your destiny. He’s uprooting the discouraging, self-deprecating thoughts that tell you what’s not possible. The Lord is putting you in remembrance of the words Jesus spoke in Matthew 19:26 NIV, which is the scripture I’m stirring into your cup of inspiration today. It says, “With man this is impossible, but with God all things are possible."
As you drink down the contents of your cup, hold your head up high, embrace a faith perspective and declare “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me” according to Philippians 4:13.
Whatever it is you feel is holding you back, no matter how forceful or powerful it seems, doesn't have power to stop the plan of God. Just stay plugged in. Stay connected. Stay rooted and grounded firmly in faith.
Tap into that dunamis. Then you can answer the adversary’s claim that you are defeated with this: “No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us.” (Romans 8:37)
Now let’s pray.
God, thank You for the assurance that I am equipped and endowed with Your power to overcome. Whenever I feel weak, please remind me that through You, I am strong and able to do all things. Help me to walk boldly and go forth in faith, knowing that You’ve empowered me to make it. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
As always, thanks for reading and until next time... may today's cup of inspiration uplift, encourage, and empower you!
