The storm can't stop your favor!

Yesterday afternoon, there was a severe storm. Rain carried by forceful and howling winds pelted the windows of my home. As I sat reading a weather advisory warning of the potential dangers of the storm, I heard windowpanes rattling.

Moments later, my 17-year-old son Kedar came over to me and said, “I see something white that got ripped off the house, and it’s just dangling.”

I hurried over to the window to have a look, as my husband Kenya went outside. We were both concerned that the wind ripped part of the gutter off the house.  Without gutters, there is nothing to keep the rain and storm water off the roof and away from the foundation. That means, water can freely pound the ground next to the foundation and erode it away, making it possible for that water to seep down into the ground. If this happens, it could cause basement leaks and make the structure of the home unstable.

Once Kenya examined the situation, he saw that the white stuff dangling wasn’t actually the gutter. Instead, some of the siding was stripped off by the forceful gusts. Our home needs to be repaired now, but the foundation is safe. And since having a stable foundation is the most important thing, even though our home’s exterior is wind-damaged, we are thankful that our foundation isn’t at risk of being compromised.

Both naturally and spiritually, having a firm foundation is key. In our walk of faith, our foundation is built upon Jesus Christ which guarantees that the storms of life will not destroy us.

Jesus said, “Everyone then who hears these words of mine and does them will be like a wise man who built his house on the rock. And the rain fell, and the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house, but it did not fall, because it had been founded on the rock” (Matthew 7:24-25 ESV).

No one can avoid the storms of life. We don’t have the power to stop the wind from blowing or the storm from raging. Yet, our relationship with God and our faith in His word prevent the raging storm from stripping away our faith and making us fall. When Jesus is the anchor of our souls, He keeps us steady in turbulent times and favors us at all times. His favor is on you, and no storm, no matter how forceful, can change that.

Declare this over your life: I am favored in affliction, and the promises of God will manifest in my life despite what comes against me. Favor is mine!
— Dianna Hobbs

According to Jeremiah 17:7-8, when our trust and confidence is in the Lord, we will be like a strong tree planted by the water with roots that run deep. Scripture says, a rooted tree “does not fear when heat comes; its leaves are always green. It has no worries in a year of drought and never fails to bear fruit."

That’s good news for you!

Because you’re rooted, you don’t have to worry when the storm rages and the wind beats against your house. You don’t have to fear. You will continue to have peace and joy. You will be fruitful, blessed and prosperous. You will walk in God’s incredible favor. You will experience the fullness of His promises. You will see miracles manifest. You will be safe and secure in the loving arms of the Father. And you will walk in the freedom and victory Christ secured for you on the cross. Clearly, the storm can’t stop your favor!

Since your delight is in God, and you have made Jesus Lord of your life, the encouraging promise in Psalm 1:3 CEV is yours. And it says, “They are like trees that grow beside a stream, that bear fruit at the right time, and whose leaves do not dry up. They succeed in everything they do.”

As you drink down the contents of your cup, rejoice in the storm. And know that you will grow through this, be fruitful, see God’s hand working, and prosper in the things God has called you to. Nothing – no storm, no rain, no wind, no struggle – can stop your favor.

Now, let’s pray.
