Yesterday, I spoke to my mom Annie and my dad Joseph who just got back from a cruise to Mexico. I enjoyed chatting on the phone with them, listening to details about their fun getaway.

They told me that they had a wonderful time on vacation and loved looking at the beautiful water which made them think about the greatness of God. They raved about the delicious cuisine, beautiful atmosphere and scenery. My parents were also happy to meet and talk to others aboard the ship that were from different parts of the world.

Since I have never been on a cruise, I asked Mom what it felt like to travel on the seas and whether or not it was smooth sailing. She said it felt similar to being in a house because the waters were calm… until the final day when the weather got bad, and the ship was caught in a storm.

Suddenly, the ship rocked back and forth as violent waves crashed against it. My parents said, amid the turbulence, they went up to the ninth floor to eat and had to shuffle their feet to keep their balance. Mom explained that the higher up you go on the ship during a storm, the more intensely you feel the effects.

Since my dad is a preacher who connects everything to Scripture (That’s where I get it from!), he said the experience reminded him of Mark 4:38, when the disciples got caught in a storm while Jesus slept. Feeling afraid and panicked, they awakened Jesus and said, “Care not that we perish?”

Unlike the disciples, however, my father didn’t fret. He told me, “I said, ‘God we’re in your hands, no matter where we are.’”

That’s my dad for you. He isn’t one to get rattled easily during natural or figurative storms, because his faith keeps him anchored in all circumstances. His strong faith has helped me on many occasions when I felt weak, especially during the time I spent over the past several years battling sickness.

Despite the winds and the waves, Dad said, “Lord, You’ve got this”—which is what we all must remember in times of stormy weather. God’s got this. We need only put our confidence in Him, and He will take care of us.

God’s got this. This problem is not too big. This obstacle is not too high. This situation is not too difficult. The Lord has it all under control. Trust Him. The outcome will be amazing!

Nahum 1:7 KJV says, “The Lord is good, a strong hold in the day of trouble; and he knoweth them that trust in him.”

In this passage, strong hold is the Hebrew word ma`owz, meaning a place of safety, protection, and refuge. Psalm 27:1 says, “The LORD is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear? the LORD is the strength of my life; of whom shall I be afraid?” Strength, in this verse, is also the Hebrew word ma`owz.

So then, you are reminded that God is the strength—protection, place of safety and refuge—of your life, and you have no need to fear the storm, enemy, or anything that comes against you. The next time violent waves on life’s stormy seas come crashing against your ship, be like my dad.

Remember, God’s got this.

Friend, wherever you go and whatever circumstances you may find yourself in, know that Jesus is on board. You are safe, and you will make it safely to shore. He has a plan for you, and He’s able to deliver you. Don’t panic, fret or doubt. Rather, expect God to take care of you.

During yesterday’s conversation, my mother told me that during the storm, she reached out to my dad and said, “Hold my hand, so I won’t fall.” Dad grabbed Mom’s hand and stabilized her, and neither of them toppled over despite the ship rocking. In similar fashion, when you go through a storm, reach out to God, and He will hold your hand. He will keep you from falling. He will bear you up when everything around you seems to be crumbling.

God is your anchor in the fiercest storm, and He’ll never leave nor forsake you. So take comfort in knowing that you are safe, cared for and covered by God. He’s got you, even in seasons of struggle, turbulence, confusion, and uncertainty. And just like my parents, you’ll make it through the storm and testify that God brought you out of it just fine.

To encourage you, I’m stirring Psalm 91:2 KJV into your cup of inspiration, which says, “I will say of the LORD, He is my refuge and my fortress: my God; in him will I trust.”

As you drink down the contents of your cup, hold fast to God’s hand. He will hold you through the storm and gently lead you to the shore of victory!

Now, let’s pray.
