God did not forget

I recall how frustrated I was by my short-term memory issues after doctors released me from the ICU. When I got home, I repeatedly asked the same questions without realizing the person I was talking to had already answered.

They would respond to me only for me to ask the same thing again just minutes later, two or three times in a row—sometimes more. It got so bad, after a while I became paranoid and prefaced questions with a question: “Did I ask you this already?”

I grew uncomfortably familiar with hearing certain phrases like: “You just said that.” “I told you already.” “You really don’t remember?”

Nope. I really didn’t. Still don’t sometimes, though things have gotten better.

Let’s face it. We all forget things from time to time. That is part of what it means to be human. It’s just that in my case forgetfulness can be extreme. Whole or especially important portions of conversations get deleted from my mental files. Old plans I made. Gone. Dreams I had. Deleted. Goals I pursued. Forgotten. And even prayers I prayed. Wiped away.

But do you know what encourages me? The fact that God never forgets despite my own forgetfulness. He doesn’t need me or you to remember what we prayed, because He remembers. What gets erased from our memory storage lingers in His!

God has spoken forever promises over you. They will never reach their date of expiration but will surely reach a date of manifestation. Due season is coming for you!
— Dianna Hobbs

I love praying the words the psalmist wrote in Psalm 119:49-50 (NIV): “Remember your word to your servant, for you have given me hope. My comfort in my suffering is this: Your promise preserves my life.”

Friend, our minds and bodies fail us, but the Lord, whose word can always be trusted, never does. I believe somebody reading needs to know that God did not forget what He said to you. He has not overlooked His promises. There is no “Best if used by” date like products that line grocers’ shelves. God’s word has divine preservatives, so it never expires.

When you remember this, it eliminates worry.

1 Peter 1:25 NIV, which is what I’m stirring into your cup of inspiration, says, “’but the word of the Lord endures forever.’ And this is the word that was preached to you.”

As you drink down the contents of your cup, know that God has spoken forever promises over you. They will never reach their date of expiration but will surely reach a date of manifestation. Due season is coming for you, and when it arrives, you will know beyond any doubt that God is a promise-keeper. He is a faithful God, according to Deuteronomy 7:9, who keeps His covenant to a thousand generations!

Again, He can be trusted.

Now, let’s pray.

God, thank You for reminding me that You can always be trusted to keep Your promises. In my waiting season when doubt tries to put my faith in a choke hold, I praise You for reminding me that Your word does not expire and will surely manifest in the appointed season. Thank you for never forgetting me and always honoring my faith. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
