God is the best provider!
My husband Kenya bought me some chicken broth to consume, as I work hard to shake off this nasty virus I caught while visiting family over the weekend. Yesterday, my teen daughter Kaiah heated up a bowl of broth for me and brought it to me.
When I put the spoon in it and sipped, it was gross! It tasted like flavorless water—not what I was expecting at all.
Well, after a bit of investigating, we discovered that she had mistakenly poured the wrong broth. The one in my bowl was the one that’s actually designated for making homemade soups and such. The one Kenya bought for me was on the countertop, but she had overlooked it. We both laughed when we discovered what went wrong.
I simply added some salt, and it tasted fine. I also thanked Kaiah for being so kind and trying to help nurse me back to health. However, I never want to taste that unsalted broth alone again. Yuck!
Salt is a huge difference-maker when it comes to bringing out the flavor of food. In the Bible, salt was equally important as it related to divine covenants.
God promised David that his kingly throne would last forever, and the Lord sealed that prophetic word with a covenant of salt (2 Chronicles 13:5). We know that promise was fulfilled through Jesus Christ, the Son of David.
It was also under a salt covenant that God promised to use the sacrifices of the Israelites as a means of providing for Levitical priests that were not allowed to own their own land.
In Numbers 18:19, God said, “Whatever is set aside from the holy offerings the Israelites present to the LORD I give to you and your sons and daughters as your perpetual share. It is an everlasting covenant of salt before the LORD for both you and your offspring."
In Scripture, the tribe of Levi was the only Israelite tribe that did not inherit land. We see this in Numbers 18:20 when God spoke to Aaron the priest who was of the tribe of Levi. “The LORD said to Aaron, ‘You will have no inheritance in their land, nor will you have any share among them; I am your share and your inheritance among the Israelites.’”
I love when God says, “I am your share and your inheritance,” because He makes the powerful point that He is more than enough. God is everything we need.
“There will never be a need you have for which God cannot provide—ever. He is a faithful Father, and He delights in taking care of you. Trust Him, and don’t you worry one bit! ”
If we look at the Levites’ plight from a carnal viewpoint, we might be inclined to feel sorry for the Levites for not possessing land that could be used to generate income. But God wanted their focus to be on serving Him and trusting Him to take care of all their needs. As we well know, God is the best provider!
That’s His direct message to you today: I am the best provider.
Don’t worry about what you lack, because for every deficiency, the all-sufficient One will make up for what you don’t have. Your Heavenly Father has already made provision for you. Through Bible history, He has proven Himself faithful to bless those that serve Him faithfully.
You may lack finances to meet obligations; education to meet job requirements; skills to successfully tackle a new challenge; knowledge to solve a problem; or access to special resources, avenues, or channels you may need.
You could be lacking any number of things, but you belong to God, and He will make up for what you don’t possess.
Friend, don’t you know you when you accepted Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior, you became a Kingdom citizen? You are a member of the family of God. Therefore, you are in covenant with the Father, and He honors His covenant without exception.
He keeps every promise. If He said it, then He will do it. Trust Him, and don’t stress over your circumstances. You serve the greatest provider, way-maker, door-opener, body-healer, and the only true Savior. No matter what happens to be out of order in your life right now, you can rest comfortably knowing that God, the covenant-keeper, has you covered. But, unlike those in the Old Testament, this covenant we enjoy is not a covenant of salt, it is a covenant of blood—the shed blood of Jesus Christ.
As a reminder that you can rely on God’s faithfulness at all times, I’m stirring Psalm 89:34 KJV into your cup of inspiration, and God says this: "My covenant will I not break, nor alter the thing that is gone out of my lips.”
As you drink down the contents of your cup, whatever challenges you may be facing, remember this word from the Lord, your provider. You have nothing at all to worry about. You know why? Because God says in Jeremiah 1:12, “…I am watching over my word to perform it.”
Now, let’s pray.
God, thank You for reminding me that You never fail to perform Your word, and every need I have, You will supply it. Thank You for being my provider. I trust You in all things, and I rest comfortably upon Your word and in Your promises. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
