It’s just a temporary inconvenience

I let out a shriek when I dropped my laptop two days ago while the USB storage device was still in it. At the time, I was taking a small break from writing a blog and accidentally knocked the laptop over as I was getting up. I tried to catch it, but I was too slow. All I could do was watch helplessly as it hit the floor with a loud BANG!

I hurried to pick it up, feeling worried I had broken the computer and the USB which had a bunch of my files on it. I noticed the screen had gone black.

Uh oh. It shut down.

I sighed deeply and began my efforts to turn the computer back on. I waited nervously and tried to think optimistic thoughts. At first, nothing was happening, but then, a blue screen! It took several minutes – a lot longer than usual – to reboot. But hey. The computer rebooted, and that’s all that matters, right? My storage device worked fine, and none of the files on it were corrupted.

Thank God! Crisis averted. Nothing missing. Nothing broken. After that temporary inconvenience, I was able to continue writing and finish my assignment.

How fitting that around the time this happened, I was reading 2 Kings 6:1-6 about a man who dropped something he needed. Go figure.

In the story, a company of prophets from Jericho was studying under Elisha, and they all lived together to submit to his authority and glean wisdom from this mighty man of God.

As the school of prophets grew, they outgrew their living space and suggested building something more spacious. Once Elisha was on board, and the plan was agreed upon, they went to the Jordan River to cut down trees to create a wood supply for the building project. As one of the prophets that had borrowed an ax was cutting down a tree, his ax head fell into the water, and he panicked. He probably let out a shriek!

When he told Elisha what happened, he asked, “Where did it fall?” When the prophet showed Elisha the place, Elisha cut off a piece of wood, threw it in the water at that very spot and made the ax head float.

The Elisha said, “Pick it up.”

Just like that, the ax head was recovered. Crisis averted. Nothing missing. Nothing broken. And he was able to finish his assignment.

Your situation will go from being a temporary inconvenience to becoming an unconventional, supernatural turnaround!
— Dianna Hobbs

Temporary inconveniences happen to all of us. Sometimes, they’re easily resolved. Then, there are times when we need divine intervention to turn things around. In today’s story, we clearly see that a miracle was necessary for there to be any hope of recovering the ax head. After all, ax heads don’t float. But the miracle-working power of God moving through Elisha recovered what was unrecoverable.

The point is this: When God steps into the equation, He changes the outcome. Whether you’re going through a minor setback or major issue, God is with you. He will help you recover. He will deliver you. He will provide for you. And He will position you to one day look back on this temporary inconvenience and say, crisis averted. Nothing missing. Nothing broken.

Today, I’m stirring Deuteronomy 30:3 MSG into your cup of inspiration, which says, “God, your God, will restore everything you lost; he'll have compassion on you; he'll come back and pick up the pieces from all the places where you were scattered.”

As you drink down the contents of your cup, by faith, thank God for restoring you and picking up the pieces. And declare that this temporary inconvenience is just a momentary setback which is really only a setup for a comeback.

Now, let’s pray.
